Imagine driving
into a park and coming up over a hill to view a beautiful
lake and campground. Chickasaw County has several campgrounds
from lake views to primitive sites along the river, some
in towns and others in the country. Many include fishing
spots, playgrounds, tennis courts, flower gardens and horseshoes.
One of our beautiful parks is the Lakeshore Drive Walking and Biking
Trail at
the end of Lakeshore Drive in Nashua. Many beautiful wild flowers bloom for your
enjoyment in July and August. It is just under a mile walk with views of the
lake, and the flowers along the path with some benches to rest on. You may discover
a rabbit, birds or an occasional deer, or a family dog being exercised.
Another beautiful park is the Mattke Park at Plum Creek Bike & Nature
Trail in Fredericksburg. You can bike or walk along, cross an ornate
iron bridge and see beautiful flowers, a pond, a vineyard, old barns, animals
grazing in the
pasture and the site of an old creamery. Fredericksburg once was the Dairy Capital
of Iowa.
In New Hampton there is Mikkelson Park where you can watch a concert or other
public events like the Davis Motorcycle Rally with friends from all over the
United States.
Some of our other parks contain rock quarries, old cemeteries, skateparks,
big playground equipment and tributes to our veterans, even an old ghost
town. Come and see...
